First Baptist Church has a variety of Sunday School classes for all ages. If you are not currently in a class, please come and visit a class at 9:00 on Sunday morning, and you are certain to find a warm welcome. We have a Preschool Department (through age 3), the Children's Department (Kindergarten and Grades 1-5), and Student Department (Grades 6-12).
Our adult groups include men's, women's, and coed classes. For a complete list of classes, please click here. This is an excellent time to get involved in the study of God's Word and find new ways to apply it to everyday life. Our Sunday school classes also offer a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends and find a Christian fellowship. Click here for a list of our Adult Sunday School classes.
BAPTISTS ON MISSION
Baptists on Mission at First Baptist Church reach out to help those in need, ministering in Christ's name throughout our local community and beyond.
Disaster relief is one of the ways Baptists on Mission put their faith into action. Teams have traveled to Gulfport, Miss., eastern NC, and other locations to aid hurricane victims.
Local projects have included helping building houses for Habitat for Humanity and putting up handicap ramps.
SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY
Take part in Bible study, monthly dinner meetings, travel, and numerous volunteer activities. Our ministry provides opportunities for you to develop new friendships, grow in your faith and expand your horizons. All seniors, regardless of church membership, are welcome to participate in this ministry.
Senior Adult Luncheons are held on the third Thursday of each month. Our next luncheon will be held in September.
A 16-member Missions Team from First Baptist Church spends one week each summer with the people of Cristo Rey in Belize. While there, they conduct a Vacation Bible School for children, complete a construction project in a village church, lead a teen ministry, conduct a dental ministry, and help lead worship services. Anyone is welcome to join this team. Please call the church office at 704-873-7231 for more information.
First Baptist Church actively supports area ministries such as Habitat for Humanity, Iredell Christian Ministries, Power Cross Ministries, and Fifth Street Ministries. Thursday afternoons (1:00-2:45 p.m.), we open to the public our clothes closet. We have clothes for men, women, girls, and boys of all sizes. Please bring a picture ID. Each year we participate in Operation Inasmuch. Volunteers perform community service projects on a designated day in the spring. Projects include lawn work, construction projects, home repair, and assemble bean soup mix for Fifth Street Ministries.
A team of volunteers visit our members that are unable to come to church Sunday mornings. These volunteers visit frquently and provide current devotionals and other Sunday School literature to our homebound members. On Wednesday evenings, those that attend the Wednesday Night Bible Study write encouraging and thoughtful notes to these members. These notes bring much joy to the homebound members.
